During Advent, we have focussed on how we can follow in Jesusβ footsteps to help those who need it. We have followed Jesusβ commandment to show love and kindness to other: we have fed the hungry, helped the sick, given clothes to those have little and visited the sick and lonely. Today we celebrated everything Europe! The continental cafΓ© is an event that many families look forward to as it gives them a chance to sit back and enjoy the tastes and smells of our Parisian cafΓ©: croissants, waffles, fresh cafe au lait and hot chocolat! The day was full of colour as different languages could be heard down the corridors. Counting in Norwegian, singing German, praying in French-it was a day enjoyed by all and a day which will be remembered.
Local MP Dr Paul Williams visited us today to see us at work and learning about different cultures and languages of Europe. It was great to talk to him about his dreams for our area as we also shared what we would like to see in our town of Thornaby. We also planted a tree in our prayer garden from Her Majesty the Queen as part of the Commonwealth Canopy 60th celebrations.
Autumn leaves were fallingβ¦ Reception and Year 1 enjoyed fresh autumnal morning walks as part of their curriculum. Everybody was wrapped up warm to see the beauty which the season brings. Parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles all enjoyed the walk out to see the different colours of Godβs creation.
Our Minni Vinnies group organised todayβs event with a group of parents. Many cakes were baked at home and many creations would have graced the Bake Off Final- move over Mary Berry! Many attended and also brought cakes after school. Many thanks to those who donated and bought cakes and helped to organise the raffle. The grand total raised on the day was Β£700 which is incredible. This will go towards helping those people who are suffering from cancer.
As part of our global learning we have been learning about racial equality. Each class found out about key people from history that have stood up because they have been mistreated by other because of the colour of their skin. Thankfully today, people are more understanding to appreciate that we are all Godβs children no matter what religion or colour we are. We also prayed that all nations and people live in peace with one another. We looked at the lives of Martin Luther King. Nelson Mandela, Harriet Tubman and Rosa Parks to name a few.
We had a fun morning in Early Years as we met one of our local police officers- PC Morgan. She came to tell us all about her work and how she helps people. We found out lots of interesting things about the Police but mainly that they are our friends and they are there to keep us safe and happy.
As part of our RE lessons, we found out all about the Jewish faith and religion and what it is like to live life as a Jew. We did lots of interesting activities finding out about their festivals, the synagogue where they pray and worship and also got to hold and use some important objects from their faith. We also learned that we are all Godβs children no matter what faith we are.
Today we welcomed our new children into our school by celebrating Mass in church with Fr.Pat and the rest of the parish. The church was full of smiling children and proud families as we welcomed into our school community. Lots of parents and parishioners commented on how fantastic the singing was and how βaliveβ the church became.
