βLive life to the fullβ -John 10:10
Itβs hard to imagine living without technology in this day and age, and yet that is what the whole school tried to do for aΒ week. The technology ban took place, and where technology had to be used, it was kept to a bare minimum. Without the use of Β technology, however,Β how could day to day life be filled?
Each class planned and carried out a number of activities at school. Lesson consisted of many different activities,Β amongst which cooking took place, children could be seen bird watching out in the playground. Maths games were made using paper and pens. Role play replaced watching stories. Books were read and made by pupils. Modelling activities produced fabulously creative rockets. Outdoor games were resurrected and skipping robes were found. Puppets were designed and made to use in puppet shows Β and so much more went on. And what did the children think? They loved it!
Furthermore, as computers, phones, tvβs, laptops and tablets were discarded at home by many children and staff alike,Β board games came out of cupboards or were made by hand, families cooked together, played together, or simply enjoyed a short walk together. Staring at screens was often replaced with conversation. Of course, nobody wants a world where technology is banned, but do we want to live a life where screens replace social interaction altogether? Surely not! Itβs time to find a happy medium.
