Welcome to Class 4 – Year 1 & 2

In Class 4 we all work really hard and have a great time doing it! Miss Hobson and Mrs. Wray are very excited about the year ahead with our class of amazing Year 1 & 2 children.

Our class is a busy, hard-working place, which challenges our children in fun and creative ways.

Year 1 children will be working towards their Phonics Screening assessment in the summer. With lots of practise throughout the year, the children will be well-prepared for this.

Our Year 2 children will be working towards their SATs in Reading, Writing and Maths. Again, they will be well-prepared and the tests are carried out in such a way that the children do not know they are happening.

To help your child gain more confidence with their reading and develop a love of books, we encourage the children to read every night. Teachers are not able to comment in the reading records at this time, but we ask that the children show us their record so that we can read all of your wonderful comments about reading at home.

Spellings, Maths and all other homework will be on google classroom and all children have a login for this. In addition to this we can sometimes send sheets home, If you need any help to access homework please let us know, we’re happy to help!

GUIDED BY THE WORD OF OUR LORD

We work together,
We play together,
We laugh together,
We pray together,
We help each other,
To be our best,
We are God’s children,
We are blessed!

Wonderful things happen in Class 4…

We are children of God…

We celebrate and pray each day. We know that God is always with us and our families and we have talked about how we want to shine like Jesus this year.

We plan our own prayers to say when we spend time with God.

The work in our RE books is beautiful too! We have been learning about The Creation Story and how God made our wonderful world and then had a rest on the Sunday. We have written our own Psalms about the beautiful things God created because he loves us.

We have been learning about the signs and symbols of our faith, especially the symbols of  baptism. We even held our own baptism to help us understand this! We have some wonderful actors in our class!

Here is our RE newsletter including some important dates in our calendar, take a look!

RE Autumn Term (1)

We are safe…

We thought about how to keep safe on the internet by keeping information private and speaking to adults if we are unsure or unhappy.

We are artists…

We have created some solar system artwork that is out of this world! We enjoyed space week and have learned the order of the planets from the sun.

We are writers…

We are working hard to form all our letters correctly, sitting each letter on the line. We are now creating our own simple sentences, thinking carefully about where our capital letters and full stops need to go. We have been using interesting adjectives to make our writing more exciting.

We have been reading books about Traditional Tales, and have worked hard producing some super writing about Little Red Riding Hood.

We have also been reading and creating some beautiful autumn poems. We have some very thoughtful poets in our class!

We used autumn words to inspire our writing.

We are mathematicians…

We are learning lots of new things in Maths. We are learning about place value using part whole models and have been trying our best to recall number bonds to 10 and 20. We have used ten frames to help us with this. We are getting really good at this!

We are scientists…

We are learning about animals including humans. We can identify the differences between a baby, child, teenager, adult and the elderly. We have begun to look at what a living thing needs to survive, with help from Betty, Class 1’s tortoise!

We are musicians…

We enjoy listening to songs, especially our favourite nursery rhymes. We have also been learning how to keep the beat in songs and will soon be adding instruments to our performances. In October we celebrated ‘International Music Day’. We have been learning about music from Italy, and we have learnt to sing ‘Ring, a Ring of Roses’ in Italian.

We are athletes…

We have been learning lots of new things in our PE lessons. We have learnt how to throw a basket ball correctly and the different types of passes we can use.

We are historians…

We are learning about the Victorians and how different school would have been during this time, lets just say we are pleased our teachers don’t use the cane anymore! We have explored our local area with a walk to find Victorian houses, we looked for huge chimneys and bay windows. We looked at our school building and the Victorian features.

We can speak different languages…

We have been learning how to say ‘hello’ when answering our register. We are going to be learning how to say ‘my name is’ and count to ten in French
